Wilanda House, Shawford, Winchester

Wilanda House is a large 5 bedroom detached property which sits on an impressive 0.7 acre plot in Shawford near Winchester. The house, which extends to 5,319 sq ft, was built in the rear garden of an existing property and boasts a triple garage with a large games room above. The garage is connected to the main house via a glass vestibule maximising the use of available light.

TRB Projects engaged the services of a renowned local architect to design the house and the project took around 14 months to complete from land acquisition to keys being handed over.

The house is set well back from the road, with access via accessed via a long tree-lined gravel drive.

The floor-to-ceiling glazing units used in the kitchen-diner and reception hall are a particular feature of the property and were custom built by a leading German maker. The oak flooring is imported from Scandinavia and features thermostatically-controlled underfloor heating throughout.

The classical lines of the property are enhanced by the double-glazed sash windows combined with stone window sills. The guttering and downpipes throughout the property are aluminium.

External floodlights at the front and rear of the property create a dramatic setting and they combine with the property's state-of-the-art security system to form a comprehensive security solution.

The house sits centrally on its plot and the gardens of just under three-quarters of an acre wrap around the property on all sides. The house was built in the rear garden of the neighbouring property, just visible in this photo.

To the rear of the house the glazed doors open out on to a stone patio. The glazing units are bi fold doors to let the garden into the house and create a wonderful entertaining area. The single-storey contemporary triple-aspect kitchen diner extends into the garden and features an innovative lantern roof structure that allows natural light to flood into the room. Photo voltaic panels fitted to the south-facing roof section provide enough power to heat the hot water and power the Everhot range cooker.

All of the reception rooms boast feature fireplaces, and the generous window sizes ensure that each room is filled with light.

On of the final elements to be completed was the fitting of the feature portico.
